Four Fort Erie men have been charged and a fifth is being sought by the Niagara Police after a Niagara Falls man was repeatedly stabbed late Monday (November 29) night.

The police were called to a Niagara Falls hospital Tuesday morning at 2:55 am as staff treated the man’s serious wounds and other injuries.

After interviewing the man in his 30s and his female companion in her 40s, they discovered the pair had accepted a ride home from a Fort Erie bar from man who was an acquaintance.

However, the ride didn’t quite make it home. Along the way, the car stopped at a parking lot near Thompson Road in Fort Erie. Waiting there were three men and a woman. A man pointed a gun at the pair and demanded cash. Then the male victim was hit with the gun and beaten.

The pair were then driven to the Lundy’s Lane and Kalar Road area in Niagara Falls where they were released. However, as they were collecting their things, the male victim was stabbed several times. The pair quickly escaped and went straight to the hospital.

After an investigation, the police charged all but one of the group.

Michael C. Nayler, 42, of Fort Erie has been charged with robbery with firearm and aggravated assault.

Yvon Joseph Bertrand, 51, of Fort Erie has been charged with pointing a firearm and robbery with a firearm.

Dustin Murray Delange, 37,of no fixed address has been charged with robbery with a firearm.

Lori Johns , 51, of Fort Erie has been charged with robbery with a firearm.

All four were held in custody for a video bail hearing at the Robert S. K. Welch Courthouse in St. Catharines on December 1.

An arrest warrant is being sought for Michael Elliot Stapleton, 42, of Fort Erie.  As a result of his role in this, Stapleton is wanted for robbery with a firearm.

Stapleton’s whereabouts are unknown and if someone recognizes him or knows his location, police say not to confront him and call them, instead.

Stapleton is described as a white male, 5-foot-8, 285 pounds with a heavy build, brown short hair, brown unshaven facial hair with blue eyes. He has distinct tattoos: various designs on his neck, “Dakota” on his right forearm and The Joker on his left bicep.

Anyone who may have information about this investigation is asked to contact detectives at 905-688-4111, extension 1009535.
