Fort Erie pulls in The Trews for the Niagara Games 13-For-13 Cultural Festival

Thus far, it looks like Fort Erie is in the lead for the Niagara 2022 13-For-13 Festival. Being paired with Nova Scotia, the town is bringing the province's favourite sons, The Trews, for a free performance on August 12.

When the 13-For-13 Cultural festival was announced, it seemed like a fairly large endeavour. Each of the 12 municipalities in Niagara Region, plus the region itself, were paired up with a Canadian province or territory and had to bring entertainment from their paired province for a local show.

The festival is connected to the Niagara 2022 Canada Games, taking part throughout the region from August 6 to 21.

When Fort Erie got paired up with Nova Scotia, they lucked out in that they were able to lock down six-time JUNO award nominee, The Trews, for their festival show.

“In partnership with host sponsor Niagara Parks and provincial partner Nova Scotia, the Fort Erie event on August 12 will offer food trucks, local vendors, a liquor licensed area, children’s programming, Scottish heavy sports demonstrations, the Creator’s Game, musical entertainment and a headline performance by six-time JUNO award nominee, The Trews,” the town announced.

For the unitiated, The Trews are a premier rock band originating from Antigonish, Nova Scotia. They are among the top 150 best-selling Canadian artists in Canada, producing well-known hits: “Not Ready to Go”, “Poor Ol’ Broken Hearted Me”, “Tired of Waiting”, “Highway of Heroes” and a large number of other country-wide chart-topping hits.

For his part, Fort Erie Mayor Wayne Redekop is ready for Fort Erie’s portion of the 13-For-13 Festival.

“What an amazing opportunity for our community to celebrate athletic excellence, cultural heritage, arts, and entertainment on the historically significant grounds of Old Fort Erie,” Redekop said.

“The history of our nation unfolded here. I want to thank Niagara Parks and Nova Scotia for their gracious collaboration. I am proud to welcome visitors from near and far to experience all that Fort Erie has to offer.”

All 13-For-13 Festivals events are free to the public. Fort Erie’s day lands at Old Fort Erie (350 Lakeshore Rd.) on August 12 from 3 pm to 10 pm.
