A Fort Erie man ended up in hospital after an incident with a knife, police say.

Niagara police say that this morning (June 30) just before 11 am, officers responded to a call on Ridge Road that a man was “brandishing a large knife.

“The knife was exposed in a dangerous manner with many members of the public present,” police said in a news release.

Police allege that once the suspect was inside the cruiser, he began to smash his head against the partition and kick the windows in the rear of the cruiser. Officers pulled the cruiser over and contacted Emergency Medical Services (EMS).

The man was subsequently transported to hospital.

Police allege that he was holding a large metal nine-inch black and red spring-loaded style pocket knife.

Arrested was Seth C. Woelke, 21, of Fort Erie, who was charged with possession of a prohibited weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, failure to comply with weapons prohibition and failure to comply with probation order.

None of the charges have been proven in court.

The suspect is being in custody pending a bail hearing that is expected to take place tomorrow (July 1).

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Niagara Regional Police Service at 905-688-4111, ext. 1002200.
