A horse rescue shelter in Fort Erie will be holding an Open House this Saturday (Sept. 30) after an anonymous foundation saved them by donating $1.2 million to buy their land.

The Last Chance Horse and Pony Rescue in the Crystal Beach area is home to 41 animals, including a pig, mule, goats, donkeys, ponies, and horses.

Earlier this year, it looked like the shelter would have to shut down when they discovered they’d need to buy the land for $1.4 million.

After community donations, as well as the massive foundation contribution, the shelter was able to buy the land by setting up a GoFundMe and exposure on two area TV stations.

Their Facebook page shows the group taking horses to seniors’ homes, among other community organizations, as horses respond well to the elderly and those with disabilities.

Their open house at 4269 Rebstock Rd. in Crystal Beach will run from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. to thank the community for supporting them through tough times.
