A Mississauga police station is up for sale and could be bought for a song.
The province has listed a Mississauga Ontario Provincial Police station for sale at just $1.00. And while the property used to house a cop shop, the site could end up as a residential development.
The old detachment at 49 South Service Rd. currently features an 8,000-square-foot building, parking lot and a garage.
The property, which is in the Cooksville area of Mississauga, is zoned for residential use and could be greenlit for low-density residential dwellings.
A sale flyer says the area has been gentrifying and there are already a handful of townhouse developments and high rises in the area.
You can check out the listing here.
The site was left vacant after the OPP relocated to a new facility, and it’s not uncommon for surplus governmental properties to end up on the real estate market when their usefulness runs out.
If no provincial government need is identified, the property is considered surplus and is circulated concurrently to other levels of government, registered eligible not-for-profit corporations, public colleges and universities, school boards and eligible indigenous communities.
The old detachment offers direct access to the QEW and is close to both the 401 and 403. It’s also close to local amenities like the Cooksville GO Station, Square One and Erin Mills Town Centre.
The property is listed for only $1.00 to keep the sale fair, competitive and open to the public, according to a post on blogTO.
