Bob Delaney, a former long-time Member of Provincial Parliament, is trying his hand at municipal politics.

The former MPP has registered to run in Mississauga’s Ward 9.

Delaney, 69, served as MPP in the ridings of Mississauga West then the re-aligned Mississauga – Streetsville form 2003 to 2018 in the Liberal governments led by Dalton McGuinty and Kathleen Wynne.

His history of campaigning in Mississauga is extensive going back to 1999 when he first ran and lost against Conservative Education Minister John Snobelen.

His first election victory came in 2003 when the government changed hands and Snobelen did not run again. Delaney was re-elected to the Legislature in 2007, 2011 and 2014

Interestingly, in that 2003 race, Delaney defeated Conservative Nina Tangri who successfully ran against him in 2018 and was re-elected as the riding’s MPP last Thursday night.

So far, seven people have registered to run in Ward 9 to replace Pat Saito who has decided to retire from politics.
