A former CFL wide receiver has been arrested and charged with one count of assault, after Peel police were called to a Mississauga home yesterday following a domestic-related incident (Feb. 25).

Chad Owens (36) is accused of assaulting a woman at a house, in the area of Mavis Road and Matheson Boulevard West.

The incident was alleged to have happened just before 3 p.m. after a 911 call was made reporting a disturbance.

Owens, originally from Hawaii, has two Grey Cups under his belt, along with being named the most outstanding special teams player in the CFL in 2010, and winning the CFL Most Outstanding Player Award in 2012.

He was scheduled to appear at court today, Peel police confirmed.
