police say airline pilot flew without a licence out of toronto pearson airport in mississauga.

A former airline pilot who’s alleged to have flown hundreds of flights without the required licence is part of a “complex fraud investigation” headed up by Peel Regional Police, the law enforcement agency says.

Peel police said they’ll reveal more details about their sweeping probe, dubbed Project Icarus, at a Tuesday morning press conference at police headquarters in Mississauga. The address to the media is scheduled for 11 a.m.

Police didn’t provide any more information on Monday, saying only their investigation alleges “a former airline captain” was in the cockpit for hundreds of flights without having the necessary licence to operate the airplanes.

Peel police Deputy Chief Nick Milinovich, acting Det. Sgt. Chad Michell, of the force’s fraud squad, and Peel Police Service Board Chair Nando Iannicca are among police brass and others expected to address the media on Tuesday.
