If all goes to plan, Forge FC could go toe-to-toe with two Major League Soccer foes in as many weeks later this spring.

The Hamilton side has announced they will host Club Soccer Mont-Royal Outremont, a Montreal-area semi-pro squad, on May 11 in the preliminary round of the 2022 Canadian Championship, also known as the Voyageurs Cups. With a win, they would earn a quarterfinal matchup against reigning champion CF Montréal, who ousted the Forge from the domestic cup competition last fall.

The 7 p.m. tilt at Tim Hortons Field with Mont-Royal Outremont will give Forge three matches in nine days, which may require coach and technical director Bobby Smyrniotis to be deft with his man management. Forge are at York United five days earlier on May 6 and host Atlético Ottawa on May 14, three days after the cup match.

The window for the quarterfinal round is May 24-26.

Forge are also facing Toronto FC for the first time on June 4 at the Donut Box, in order to decide the ’20 Canadian Championship. The resolution of that competition was affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

All Canadian Championship matches are aired or streamed on OneSoccer, and are also available on Channel 980 on Telus’s Optik TV.

The window for the Canadian Championship semifinals is June 21 to 23. The final will be played in July, and the winning team gets Canada’s berth in the 2023 CONCACAF Champions League.
