Production of the first of the new Lincoln electrical vehicles (EVs) at Oakville’s Ford Assembly Plant is expected to begin rolling off the line in late 2024 or early 2025.

The large crossover, similar in size to the Aviator, is part of $1.5 billion move by the automaker to go from a combustion-engine to battery electric vehicles, sources told inhalton.

Ford Motor Co. is expected to produce at least five new electric Lincoln SUVs through 2026 that will either replace or supplement models such as the Nautilus, Aviator and Navigator.

Those potential EV crossovers replacing the Nautilus and Lincoln Corsair could also be built in Oakville in 2025 and 2026.

The automaker and Canadian union Unifor signed an agreement nearly two years ago to introduce up to five new EVs beginning in 2025 and in it stated that the same EVS would be available at the Oakville plant.

Ford is expected to begin retooling the plant in 2024 in preparation for production of the EVs.

The move to battery electric Lincoln vehicles is a main part of Ford’s planned $30B investment in EVs and batteries through 2030.

The automaker said it will be able to build at least 600,000 electric vehicles globally within 24 months.
