Foods recalled for cyanide risk, Salmonella, or unlisted ingredients in Mississauga and Brampton

Health Canada reports that multiple products have been recalled from stores in Ontario this week (Jan. 17 to 23) due to potential health and safety risks, including stores in Mississauga and Brampton.

Residents are advised to check if they have these products at home and avoid using or consuming them out of caution.

The following products are affected:


Mahruse brand Tahini Extra Sesame Seed Paste and Halva with Black Seeds

Mahruse brand Halva with Black Seeds - 700 grams - top

Risk: Possible Salmonella contamination. Food contaminated with Salmonella may not look or smell spoiled but can still make you sick with symptoms such as fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps and diarrhea. Risks are higher for young children, pregnant women, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems.

What you should do: Recalled products should be thrown out or returned to the store where they were purchased. If you think you became sick from eating a recalled product, contact your doctor.


Arifoglu brand Black Pepper Ground

Risk: The product contains gluten which is not listed on the label.

What you should do: Residents with a gluten allergy or gluten intolerance should check if the product can be returned to the store it was purchased from.


Evive brand Immunity Super Functional Smoothie

Risk: The product contains raw elderberries, which contain cyanogenic glycosides, a natural toxin.

What you should do: Recalled products should be thrown out or returned to the store where they were purchased. If you think you became sick from eating a recalled product, contact your doctor.

Risk: Drawstrings on children’s upper outerwear can become caught on playground equipment, fences, or other objects and result in strangulation, or in the case of a vehicle, the child being dragged.

What you should do: Consumers should immediately remove the drawstrings and toggles from the bottom of the jacket, by cutting both sides of the cords, to eliminate the hazard.


Kattnakken Junior Rain Jacket

Risk: Drawstrings on children’s upper outerwear can become caught on playground equipment, fences, or other objects and result in strangulation, or in the case of a vehicle, the child being dragged.
