The City is searching for a fleet of Halal and environmentally-friendly food trucks to help Brampton celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr next month.

Also known as the Festival of Sweets, Eid-ul-Fitr is one of the most important festivals celebrated by Muslims in Canada and across the globe. Plans for Brampton’s Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations are underway and the City says it is looking for food truck vendors to take part in the festival in Gage Park on April 5.

“We are looking for a dynamic food truck that is environmentally conscious and offers Halal food to participate in this event,” a call for applications from the City reads.

The City said all applications will be evaluated based on the services offered how they fit with the overall event, and if they have environmentally friendly practices.

Food trucks that make it through the selection process will be responsible for their own operating supplies including lighting, generators and gas, water, tables and chairs. Individual vendors are responsible for their own set-up and tear-down and must maintain a clean and organized area.

Single-use plastics will not be permitted on-site, and all vendors are required to use biodegradable containers and recyclable utensils for food service. Trucks will also need to be insured in order to qualify for the event.

Applications from religious organizations or political parties and campaigns of any type will not be considered “in order to maintain an atmosphere of respect and neutrality,” the City said.
