Another Mississauga food bank hit a record-high number of clients.

The Compass Food Bank and Outreach Centre served 718 clients the week of March 20 — the highest number in their 20-year history, the organization said in a Facebook post.

This comes as The Mississauga Food Bank announced they served more clients in February — 13,850 — than any other single month in its history.

Last week, Compass provided food and hygiene products to 718 south Mississauga households, the post says.

“The week of March 20th, 2023 brought a sobering fact to The Compass Food Bank & Outreach Centre; not one we ever wanted to accomplish,” they wrote.

They also enrolled 96 new clients that week — the second-highest number.

“This shouldn’t be happening, but you can make a difference now,” The Compass posted. “Our hearts ache for the facts, but we are so grateful that The Compass is here for those in need of access to food, hygiene products and other services they wouldn’t have otherwise.”

Over 300 active volunteers helped get the food and hygiene products out to those clients.

But now the food bank finds their shelves in the warehouse are pretty bare.

The Compass Food Bank and Outreach Centre asks those who are able to donate food or funds. For more information, visit the website.
