Pearson reports smooth first day of March break

Scheduled flights to and from one of Germany’s largest cities could be cancelled tonight and tomorrow at Pearson Airport in Mississauga due to labour action across the Atlantic.

Pearson officials said via social media Wednesday morning that “flights to and from Frankfurt tonight and tomorrow may be affected by this labour action.”

According to Frankfurt Airport authorities, a strike by security staff at that airport has been called for Thursday.

“The strike will cause major disruptions and flight cancellations throughout the day. In particular, security checkpoints outside the transit area will remain closed,” Frankfurt Airport officials said in a post to X (formerly Twitter).

With a population of about 800,000, Frankfurt is one of the largest cities in Germany and a popular destination for airlines operating out of Pearson.

Pearson Airport has seen numerous arriving and departing flights delayed and cancelled over the past two weeks or so due to nasty winter weather both in southern Ontario and elsewhere in Canada, the U.S. and Europe.
