After heavy rainfall overnight, flash floods are possible along the Credit River and tributaries in Mississauga, Brampton and Caledon.
Credit Valley Conservation issued a Flood Outlook Statement today (July 13).
The statement comes after heavy rainfalls — of 30 to 50mm — in the Upper Credit River watershed (Orangeville, Erin and Caledon) last night and into the morning.
“While no flooding of the Credit River and its major tributaries is expected, there is a possibility of localized flash floods and water pooling on the roads and in flood-prone and low-lying areas,” the statement reads.
Local streams and rivers could become dangerous, especially in the vicinity of culverts, bridges and dams.
“People are warned to stay away from all watercourses and to keep children and pets away.”
Credit Valley Conservation will continue to closely monitor weather and water levels in the watershed.
The Watershed Conditions Statement for Flood Outlook will be in effect through Monday (July 17) or until further notice.
A Flood Outlook Statement is issued as an early notice of the potential for flooding based on weather forecasts of heavy rain, snow melt, high wind or other conditions that could lead to high runoff, ice jams, shoreline flooding or erosion.
