The flags at Lincoln Town Hall were lowered today to acknowledge the passing of Jill Hilldreth, former Town Councillor and Regional Councillor.

Hilldreth (maiden name: Garnham) passed away peacefully at 83 last Wednesday (October 27) surrounded by her family at McNally House in Grimsby.

Today, Lincon said in a release, “It is with great sadness that the Town announces the passing of Jill Hilldreth, former Town Councillor for 10 years and Regional Council for 18 years.  Jill loved her hometown of Lincoln and connecting with residents and visitors on the family fruit stand on Greenlane.”

“The Hilldreth family had a farm on Blezard Road and a strawberry patch on Durham Road.  Jill was known for her work ethic and instilling those values in employees in each respective location.”

They added, “Jill was an active community member and volunteer. Her contributions to our town will be remembered, and she will be missed by many. Our sincere condolences to Jill’s family.”

Hilldreth’s husband Martin passed in 2009 and she lost a daughter Sandy Hilldreth in 1984. She leaves behind a daughter Carole and son David.

As well as politics, she was a founding and active member of the Lincoln Garden Club and Horticultural Society.

A private Memorial Service (by invitation only) will take place at the Vineland Chapel of Tallman Funeral Homes on Tuesday, November 2 at 12 noon with interment of ashes to follow at Mount Osborne Cemetery.
