A 41-year-old St Catharines man faces impaired driving charges following a five-car collision Saturday (June 26).

According to police, four vehicles were stopped at the intersection of Prince Charles Dr. and Thorold Rd. in Welland around 4:30 p.m.

Police say another vehicle hit two of the others from behind causing them all to crash into each other.

Four people sustained injuries, all non-life-threatening, from the collisions.

Niagara Regional Police 3 District (Welland) officers subsequently arrested and charged Billy-Joe Knarr with impaired driving and operating a vehicle without insurance.

Knarr was released pending a future court date. The charges have not been proven in court.
