The first of four new murals has been revealed at the Brampton Soccer Centre, painted by a hometown artist to celebrate the determination of young athletes in the city.
The mural is called “Moment of Impact” and was created by local artist Paul Glyn-Williams, who goes by the name SumArtist.
The piece is inspired by and celebrates the energy, determination and community that shape young athletes in Brampton, the city says.
“The mural reflects the journey of growing through sport and the important role local neighbourhoods, schools, parks and recreation spaces play in supporting athletes and creatives alike,” the city said following the unveiling on Tuesday.
This mural is part of a collaboration between Brampton’s Cultural Services and Recreation departments to bring public art into everyday community spaces, and is the first of four large-scale artworks being installed at the Brampton Soccer Centre this summer, “transforming the facility into a vibrant showcase of local creativity,” the city says.

The quartet of murals will reflect Brampton’s growing role in developing athletes and fostering community through sport, with each artwork capturing themes of “perseverance, identity, teamwork and the journey of growing the game, while recognizing the diverse communities that support young athletes on and off the field,” the city says.
Raised in Brampton, sports played a significant role in Glyn-Williams’ upbringing. Drawing inspiration from his experiences growing up in neighbourhoods including Heart Lake and Springdale, he credits both sports and creativity with influencing his path as an athlete and artist
Now based between Toronto and Montreal, his artistic practice spans painting, digital graphics, graffiti, sculpture and fabrication, and has led to the creation of large-scale public artworks across Canada, the United States, Europe and South America.
