The heat is on in Burlington, Oakville, Milton and Halton Hills.

Environment Canada issued the first heat event of the season in Halton Region on Monday (May 30) and residents can expect the increasingly humid weather to carry on into Tuesday.

Temperatures are expected to approach 30 degrees Celsius, before dipping briefly into the upper teens on  Monday night.

Tuesday is expected to be a scorcher with maximum temperatures in the low 30s and minimum temperatures in the low 20s in many areas.

Little relief from the heat is expected on Tuesday night, though cooler air is expected to arrive on Wednesday.

However, maximum temperatures on Tuesday will be in the low thirties, and with forecast minimum temperatures in the low twenties in many areas, little relief from the heat is expected on Tuesday night.

Cooler air is expected to arrive on Wednesday.

These steamy conditions can pose a health risk everyone, especially the elderly, infants, young children, people with chronic illnesses or anyone not used to the heat.

Residents are advised to drink plenty of cool liquids before feeling thirsty and try to keep cool by dressing for the weather and spending more time in a cool location.
