Lynx Air is marking its maiden flight out of Hamilton with a seat sale.

The new “ultra-affordable” airline’s first flight from John C. Munro Hamilton International Airport took off on Wednesday (July 29). Lynx Air is starting out with twice-weekly return services to both Calgary and Halifax, and will double the Hamilton-Calgary route to four times a week on July 29, giving it a dozen flights per week out of and into the city.

That equating to 2,268 seats per week, and Lynx Air is holding a limited-time seat sale, offering up to 50 per cent off all base fares to and from Hamilton. The sale ends at 11:59 p.m. on Friday (July 1).

“We are excited to be bringing greater choice and competition to the Greater Toronto Area with Lynx’s launch of services at Hamilton International Airport,” Lynx Air CEO Merren McArthur stated.

Air Transat, Lynx, Sunwing, Swoop and WestJet fly out of Hamilton. Swoop also recently resumed return service between Hamilton and Las Vegas.

The top executive at Hamilton International Airport noted the addition of another airline should help with the recovery of the tourism industry, which has been hit hard by the first two summers of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We are thrilled to officially welcome Lynx Air to Hamilton International Airport as it takes to the skies with its inaugural flights,” Hamilton International executive managing director Cole Horncastle. “This important milestone not only further positions Hamilton International as a growing gateway for affordable air travel, but also supports economic recovery for the tourism sector.”
