A new restaurant focused on traditional clay pot meals has opened in Toronto, serving flame-cooked rice bowls and comforting classic meat dishes.
Rice & Flame, located at 3290 Midland Ave. in Scarborough, officially opened Jan. 15, introducing what the restaurant describes as the city’s first concept centred on ancient clay-pot cooking.
According to Rice & Flame, the menu emphasizes quality ingredients, traditional techniques and familiar flavours.
Many dishes are served in hot clay pots, producing fragrant rice with crispy and caramelized layers at the bottom. The menu also includes appetizers, cold dishes, crunchy snacks and house-made rice ice cream.
Other popular dishes are the bubbling crab congee, Teochow fried minced pork roll with bean curd and water chestnuts, two-choice lo mein with braised pork and pork trotter, homestyle braised duck tongues, and Teochow sweet-coated taro.
Additional menu items include pork belly, Hainan chicken rice, chow fun, General Tso chicken, and fish dishes.
Rice & Flame operates Sunday from 11 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. and Monday to Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.
