Italy’s flagship airline has launched its first Canadian route that will take travellers between the historic city of Rome and Pearson Airport in Mississauga seven days a week.
ITA Airways’ inaugural Canadian flight left Pearson last Friday afternoon bound for Italy’s capital, which attracts visitors from all over the globe looking for a glimpse back into ancient history. Last year, Pearson officials said in a post to social media, more than 50,000 travellers took flights between Canada’s biggest and busiest airport and Rome.
“ITA Airways has launched its first Canadian route here at Toronto Pearson with direct flights to Rome available seven days a week,” Pearson officials said in a post to X (formerly Twitter), adding “we’re excited to bring another direct link to this historic city.”
With nearly three million inhabitants, Rome is Italy’s most populated city and the third-most populous city in the European Union (by population within city limits). Rome’s metropolitan area has some 4.4 million people.
Also this past Friday, Swiss International Airlines launched direct routes between Zurich and Pearson, according to airport officials here. Travellers can catch flights five times weekly between Pearson and Switzerland’s largest city.
“Get ready to experience the charm of Switzerland’s cultural capital,” Pearson officials said in a post to X.
Located in north-central Switzerland, Zurich is home to more than 443,000 people in its core and some two million when its metropolitan area is considered.
