A Brampton man has finally scored his first big win after playing the lottery for decades.

The Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) announced in a news release Tuesday that Colin Caines won a $100,000 top prize after playing a Crossword Tripler scratch ticket.

Caines, who is a truck driver, likes to play Lotto Max, Lotto 6/49, and a variety of instant games, the release said.

“I played my ticket and noticed I had matched six red words. I’ve never matched that many before,” Caines said.

“I pulled out my phone to check my ticket. That’s when I saw the ‘Big Winner’ message on the screen. At first, I didn’t think it was real.”

Caines said he had to scan it three or four more times before the win sunk in.

He kept it a secret — wanting to collect the prize before sharing the news.

Now, Caines said he wants to share some of the money with his kids.

“I will take care of some responsibilities and invest the rest for the future,” he added.

The winning ticket was bought in Innisfil at Canco/One Stop on Yonge Street.
