For the first time since the start of the pandemic, Brampton will have an in-person New Year’s Eve celebration this year.

This year’s celebration will feature a fireworks display, as well as musical performances from Toronto-based singer-songwriter Ameerah, Toronto-based Oji-Cree singer-songwriter Aysanabee, and Juno Award-winning Canadian rock band Sam Roberts Band.

The festivities will be held at Garden Square starting at 9 p.m., and they will culminate in fireworks at 12 a.m. to celebrate the arrival of 2022.

“New Year’s marks a time to gather, celebrate, reflect on the past year and look forward to opportunities of the one ahead. With the return of in-person events, we look forward to ushering in 2022 with live entertainment from Sam Roberts Band and fireworks in downtown Brampton,” Mayor Patrick Brown said in a news release.

“I also invite residents to join myself and Councillors on New Year’s Day, at our in-person New Year’s Levee for a meet and greet and community skate. This annual tradition is the perfect way to kick off the New Year,” he said.

Attendees will likely expect a rendition of Where Have All The Good People Gone, which was on their album We Were Born in a Flame, which won the award for Album of the Year at the 2004 Juno Awards.
