You could pay a heavy price if you let off fireworks on New Year’s Eve — or any other time — in Brampton.
The city says it plans to strictly enforce its ban on fireworks as 2025 transitions into 2026, with fines reaching as high as $100,000 for those who ignore the rules.
“Fireworks are prohibited in Brampton. You are not allowed to use, buy, sell, discharge, display or be in possession of fireworks,” is the stern warning sent out by the City of Brampton through various social media outlets.
Sparklers are the only traditional type of fireworks that are allowed.
The ban was imposed following explosive Diwali celebrations in 2022, which saw more than 1,000 complaints filed to City Hall.
The fines for failing to comply are as follows:
- Discharge or in possession of fireworks without a permit: $500
- Sell, distribute, display or offer for sale fireworks: $1,000
- Permit, allow or cause to be set off fireworks on private property without a permit: $500
- Fail to comply with an order: $1,000
The city may also, at its discretion, issue a summons requiring an individual to attend court, where fines could range from a minimum of $500 to a maximum of $100,000.
A public display of fireworks will be held on New Year’s Eve at Garden Square.
