Firehouse Subs donates $46,000-plus to Clarington Fire for industrial gear washer

Clarington Emergency and Fire Services received a grant from the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation of Canada for $46,612.50 to purchase a specialized, industrial gear washer.

“On behalf of Clarington Fire, I want to thank the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation of Canada for this sizeable grant. This new industrial washer will ensure that our firefighters have equipment that is properly sanitized to help minimize their exposure to dangerous carcinogens and toxins,” said Clarington Fire Chief Mariano Perini.

Clarington Fire purchased the professional cleaning and decontamination washer used to clean the breathing apparatus and personal protective equipment. The washer uses specialized technology and different wash cycles to clean and sanitize this equipment from cancer-causing toxins and carcinogens.

“We know that fire crews are exposed to some nasty toxins through their careers. This washer will help keep their essential gear sanitized and add another level of safety and protection. Clarington Fire is the first department in Durham Region to purchase this cleaning equipment,” Perini added.

Sine 2015, the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation of Canada has awarded 266 grants to public safety organizations. The grant provided to Clarington Fire is one of eleven awarded in 2021 to public safety organizations across Ontario, totalling $221,000.
