Burlington fire damage blaze

A late-night fire in Burlington is being blamed on a smouldering cigarette.

The Burlington Fire Department was called to an apartment building on Reimer Common near Queensway Dr. just after 11 p.m. on April 20 and found smoke and flames coming from a balcony.

When firefighters entered the unit they discovered that the fire had started to spread inside the building.

Crews were able to get the fire under control.

No injuries were reported.

Initial reports indicate a smouldering cigarette may have ignited a chair cushion.

The fire department used the opportunity to remind people to make sure that cigarettes are fully extinguished before being discarded.
