Firearms seized in Brampton stolen vehicle investigation

Police say on October 5, 2020, at 3:00 a.m., officers from 21 Division located a stolen vehicle driving in the area of Bovaird Avenue and Torbram Road in Brampton.

As officers attempted to stop the vehicle for further investigation, the occupants fled on foot, according to police.

Two of the vehicle’s occupants were quickly located and apprehended by the K-9 unit with the assistance of uniform officers, police say.

According to police, the investigation revealed that the suspects were in possession of approximately 1 kg of marijuana, and a 22 calibre rifle, loaded with 16 rounds of ammunition.

Jahliq Sheilds, an 18-year-old man from Brampton and a 17-year-old youth, also from Brampton, were each charged with possession of stolen property and drug and firearms-related offences, according to police.  

Both accused were held for a bail hearing and attended the Ontario Court of Justice.

A general provision of the Youth Criminal Justice Act (Y.C.J.A.) prohibits the release of the name of a Young Person and, therefore, the identity of the Young Persons charged in this investigation is protected.
