A massive fire destroyed many townhouses under construction early Sunday morning in Georgetown in Halton Hills.
Firefighters were called to a townhouse subdivision on Trafalgar Road, north of 17 Sideroad, where flames engulfed multiple units, according to a post on X by user Graham Paine.
Halton Regional Police said in a social media post that shortly after 3 a.m., Trafalgar Road was closed in both directions between Maple Avenue and Highway 7 while emergency crews responded to the fire.
Police urged motorists to avoid the area, including adjacent roads along Trafalgar Road.
Thick smoke and flames were visible for several kilometres as crews worked to bring the blaze under control. No injuries were reported.
Halton Hills firefighters were able to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading further.
The Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office has been notified and is expected to investigate the cause of the fire.
The cause of the fire and the estimated cost in damage have not been released.
