Fire closes span of Red Hill Valley Parkway in Hamilton with construction project ablaze

Part of the Red Hill Valley Parkway in Hamilton could be closed “for some time” as firefighters work to quell a blaze at a construction project.
The closures are in the area of Rymal Road and the RHVP in the Stoney Creek area, near the east Mountain. Automated Hamilton Police tweets say the upper Red Hill is closed between Rymal Rd. and Highland Rd. due to a “residential fire.” Upper Mount Albion Rd. is also closed south of Highland.
Photos and video shared by Hamilton Fire Department (HFD) showed flames leaping from a newly framed construction project, with smoke billowing into the air. The project appeared to be a townhouse development.

“Roads are closed,” HFD said. “Crews will be operating on scene for some time.”
An estimated 2,383 businesses and homes in the area will likely be without power until mid-evening, Alectra Utilities says. The hydro cut was likely ordered by HFD as part of the containment effort.
Much of the project was still being framed. The blaze also comes after a stretch of dry weather in Hamilton, with only 4.4 mm of rain in the last 15 days. The last day with rain was on July 4, one week ago Monday.
