Firefighters and police in Brampton were contending with a fire in a highrise apartment building late on Thursday night.

Peel Regional Police did not indicate whether there were any street closures as a result of the fire call, but said the call was in the area of Malta Avenue and Ray Lawson Boulevard. The fire was on the balcony of a unit and might have started while a resident wsa barbequing.

There were no reports of any injuries.

The presence of fire trucks, firefighters and equipment can lead to residential streets being more challenging for motorists and cyclists. Residents of the building, typically, also have to stay out of the building until firefighters have confirmed it is safe to go back inside.
