A month-long strike at 27 Metro grocery stores has ended but it will take a few days before you can shop at affected locations again.

A spokesperson for Unifor, the union that represents the 3,700 workers who walked off the job on July 29, said the stores will reopen on Tuesday, Sept. 5.

In the meantime, workers will spend the next four days restocking store shelves.

Not all Metro stores were closed during the labour dispute as another union represents the workers at the ones that remained open.

Stores that will reopen on Sept. 5 are:

  • 1050 Kennedy Circle, Milton
  • 1521 Rebecca St., Oakville
  • 180 Sandalwood Parkway., Brampton
  • 2225 Erin Mills Parkway, Mississauga
  • 6677 Meadowvale Town Centre Circle, Mississauga

The settlement will see all workers get an immediate $1.50 an hour raise with full-time and senior part-time workers getting an additional 50-cent increase in January,

The new agreement also includes a new part-time sick leave program, improved benefits and pensions, a new standardized work week for full-time workers, more stable scheduling including additional guaranteed weekends off for some classifications, and job protection from the implementation of self-check-outs.
