A Filipino restaurant known for its pillowy bun sandwiches is coming to Mississauga for a short time only.

Bao Mama, a Filipino restaurant in Scarborough, is coming to Square One in Mississauga.

The pop up Bao Mama is for one week only in Square One’s Food District from Monday, Jan. 16 to Sunday, Jan. 22.

Bao is traditionally a warm, fluffy steamed bun stuffed with meat and/or veggies.

Bao Mama makes their buns from scratch and packs them with Filipino/Asian-inspired textures and flavours, and slathers them with house-made sauces.

The menu includes buns stuffed with braised beef brisket, deep fried chopped pork hock and crispy chicken. There are vegetarian options too including the tofu and mushroom bun with a miso glaze.

They also have salads, spring rolls and fries.

They started as a home-based catering business in Oshawa in 2021 but soon opened a restaurant in Scarborough at Morningside Avenue and Sheppard Avenue. They later moved to 4419 Sheppard Ave. E. (Brimley Road and Sheppard Avenue).

Bao Mama says they chose Mississauga for their first pop up in a major city because they have many customers who travel to Scarborough from Mississauga.
