An Australian-born chef and a staple in the heart of the Streetsville area of Mississauga are once again teaming up to provide some delicious chocolate treats just before Christmas.

John Placko, who started the Modern Culinary Academy and Powder for Texture, recently announced that he’s collaborating again with Murphy’s Ice Cream Parlour to sell some festive cocoa bombs, edible candles, smash cakes and more.

The KOCO Chocolate Pop-up is open daily at Murphy’s from 2-7 p.m. through this Thursday (Dec. 23).

“I’m hoping we can get a call out for people to shop local and support local,” said Placko, who has lived in Mississauga for 25 years and started the pop-up business last year during COVID-19 lockdown.

Placko is no stranger to creative concoctions. According to the Modern Culinary Academy’s website, the chef focuses on what’s known as molecular cuisine. The website says that since 2006, he has been invited to present, demonstrate and teach this modern cuisine to numerous culinary groups at Humber College, Liaison College, George Brown College, Nella Cucina, The Cook Book Store and more.
