For the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic, Hamilton's Festival of Friends is returning for a one-day concert event at Gage Park.

Those who have been waiting almost two years to attend a major concert event can circle Sept. 18, 2021, on their calendar.

Organizers of the Festival of Friends announced the one-day Concert in the Park, featuring four stages of music, food, and activities at Hamilton’s Gage Park.

Organizers added that the event will be capped off by “two major surprise headliners” that will be announced on Sept. 17.

Admission is free and the event is scheduled to take place, rain or shine.

Two-year hiatus

The typically three-day concert event has been an annual mainstay at Gage Park since 1976 — aside from a six-year stint at Ancaster Fairgrounds. However, last year’s event was cancelled due to COVID-19 restrictions.

The Festival of Friends has featured some big names over the years, like Gord Downie, Tom Cochrane, Burton Cummings, and Gordon Lightfoot; as well as bands like Sam Roberts Band, The Trews, July Talk, and Big Wreck.
