Female youth sent to hospital after ‘edged weapon’ incident at Hamilton school

Police placed a Hamilton school under hold and secure Thursday afternoon after use of “edged weapon” sent a 16-year-old female was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

A 16-year-old male has been charged with assault with a weapon in connection with the incident that occurred at Nora Frances Henderson Public School, located in the area of Upper Sherman and Rymal Rd. The Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board says it’s also investigating reports of a “noxious substance” that was sprayed inside the school.

The hold and secure at NFHPS was lifted at around 1:30 p.m. on Thursday.

Since the accused is legally a child, they cannot be named under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
