Halton Region is currently seeking feedback from residents on the proposed expansion to Burlington Quarry.

Last year, an application was submitted by Nelson Aggregate Co. to amend the Halton Regional Official Plan and expand the Burlington Quarry by identifying the subject lands as a “Mineral Resource Extraction Area.”

The proposal also involves applications with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry, the Niagara Escarpment Commission and the City of Burlington, to extend the license and extraction areas to the south and west of the existing quarry lands.

“The application to expand the Burlington Quarry is currently under technical review with members of the Joint Agency Review Team (JART) which includes the City of Burlington, Conservation Halton and the Niagara Escarpment Commission,” said Halton Regional Chair Gary Carr.

“We are all committed to ensuring the public can easily access information about the review process to submit timely input at each stage of review. We want to ensure the planning decisions reflect the needs of residents and their interests are protected throughout the application review process.”

As a result of the proposed amendment to the Halton Regional Official Plan to expand the Burlington Quarry, a virtual meeting is being held for Regional Council to hear feedback from the community.

The meeting will take place on Sept. 15 at 11:30 a.m.
