A Brampton manufacturing company is expanding and adding over a dozen new jobs thanks to a more than $4 million funding boost from Ottawa.

The federal government announced on Friday that Brampton’s A. Berger Precision Ltd. has been selected for a $4.7 million investment through the FedDev Ontario program to increase its domestic production and create 15 jobs in Brampton’s machine operating and engineering sector.

The company specializes in advanced manufacturing, producing machined components for a wide range of industries including the automotive, aerospace, defense, and medical sectors, and the investment will allow the company to adopt new technologies and increase its made-in-Canada production of larger, and more complex parts.

“With the help of the funding from FedDev Ontario, we are able to purchase state-of-the-art innovative technology, allowing us to increase our manufacturing efficiencies, and compete globally,” said company President Alexander Berger.

Established in 1979, A. Berger Precision is the sole Canadian subsidiary of Germany-based Berger Group. The 100,000-square-foot Brampton facility is fully Industry 4.0 enabled and also serves as its North American headquarters, employing some 150 staff members.

With clients like GM, Continental and Bosch, the funding will also help A. Berger improve its research and development capacity to experiment with new techniques and materials, reduce production downtime, and cut down on quality defects.

With projects like MDA’s space robotics facility, the Stellantis auto plant overhaul, the Magna plant and Lululemon facility all coming to Brampton, Mayor Patrick Brown said the A. Berger is more evidence that “there’s something special happening here.”

“Announcement after announcement, there are companies saying they want to be in Brampton, it’s because of hard-working employees who make companies great,” Brown said.

“Today’s investment in A. Berger Precision Ltd. will help the Brampton community further develop its network of incredible talent and leading-edge innovation in the evolving manufacturing sector.

Minister Kamal Khera and MP for Brampton West  said the investment will help support and develop Brampton’s “network of incredible talent and leading-edge innovation in the evolving manufacturing sector.”

“The strength of this region is built on its innovators and today’s investment will provide them with the tools to succeed for the future, as well as create 15 new jobs across Brampton,” Khera said.
