A car crash in Ajax has sent a father and his 4-year-old daughter to hospital with serious injuries. The little girl remains in critical condition.

Shortly after 6 a.m. on December 23, two cars collided at the Taunton Rd. and Westney Rd. intersection. An eastbound Volkswagen Jetta and a Ford F-150 collided head-on in the middle of the intersection.

The Jetta driver was taken to a Toronto trauma centre with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. His daughter was also rushed to a trauma centre and is currently in critical but stable condition.

A second child in the Jetta and the F-150 driver were not hurt in the crash.

Durham Regional Police dispatched their Collision Investigation Unit to the scene. They shut down the typically busy intersection for several hours to collect evidence.

Any witnesses to the crash can call Det. Cst.  Bill Scott of the Traffic Services Branch at 905-579-1520 (toll-free 1-888-579-1520) ext. 5217.

The fierce winter storm that started last night continues to rage across southern Ontario. Though it is unknown if the storm directly contributed to this crash, it has caused up to 100 crashes on Hwy 401 today.

It has prompted therefore prompted numerous warnings from police services throughout the GTA to stay home and off the roads unless necessary.
