A fatal crash in Toronto has led to charges for the driver and the surviving passenger, a man from Pickering.

According to Toronto Police, a Jaguar F-Pace luxury SUV was headed west on Steeles Ave. around 3 a.m. on Nov. 23. As the SUV passed Sewells Rd. the driver lost control of the car. The crash scene was right on the border of Scarborough and Markham in Rouge National Urban Park.

When the car left the roadway, it rolled over several times. As it rolled, a 19-year-old passenger was thrown out of the vehicle. First responders arrived soon after and pronounced the man dead at the scene.

Two others were inside the car, the driver and a second passenger. They received minor injuries in the crash and were treated in the hospital.

On Jan. 25, Toronto Police charged the driver, Roshayin Kesavan, 20 of Toronto, with impaired driving causing death.

The other passenger, Kajeevan Nithiyananthan, 19 of Pickering, was charged with obstruction of justice the following day.

Nithiyananthan will appear in court on Mar. 9, while Kesavan will appear on Mar. 10 to answer to the charges which have not been proven.
