Fatal Collision in Mississauga Results in the Death of a Mother and Child

A fatal collision in Mississauga has resulted in the death of a mother and her child.

Earlier this morning, Nov. 1, Peel Police responded to a collision in the area of Mavis and Burnhamthorpe Road in Mississauga. 

Two vehicles were involved in the collision.

Police say, one vehicle was travelling northbound on Mavis and the other was travelling eastbound on Burnhamthorpe when the two collided.

The vehicle travelling northbound was driven by an 18-year-old who is now in the hospital with serious but not life threatening conditions, according to police. There were no other passengers in this vehicle.

Police say, inside the other vehicle was a mother, a child, and a father.

The mother and child have both been pronounced dead and the father is in the hospital with life threatening injuries, according to police. 

The cause of the collision is currently unknown.

Police say the Mavis and Burnhamthorpe intersection will remain closed until approximately 11:00 a.m. this morning. Road closures are alslo in effect in the area surrounding the intersection to prevent drivers from accessing the area where the cleanup and investigation are taking place. 

Commuters will want to avoid the area.
