A well-known sandwich shop, with thousands of locations in the U.S., is expanding its presence in Canada and is set to open its second store in Mississauga this year.

Jersey Mike’s, which competes on a national level with other fast-food chains in major American markets, has targeted June 18 for its latest store. It will be situated in the Heartland Town Centre on Mavis Road and Britannia Road West.

The first Jersey Mike’s opened last month at Meadowvale Town Centre.

“We were thrilled by the positive response to our opening in Meadowvale Town Centre and we’re looking forward to bringing the excitement to Heartland Town Centre as well,” said Ken Otto, CEO of Redberry Restaurants, the operators of both Mississauga locations.

Founded in 1956 in Point Pleasant, New Jersey, the business grew in the 1970s, and now there are more than 2,000 Jersey Mike’s across the U.S., and that number is growing.

In an increasingly competitive submarine sandwich landscape, Jersey Mike’s has carved out its sizeable share by offering its loyal customer base a different take on the types of meat and cheese offered that are sliced fresh with each order and piled high on the bun.

Customer favourites are The Original Italian with ham, prosciuttini, cappacuolo, salami, pepperoni and provolone cheese and the Big Kahuna Cheese Steak, which comes with grilled onions, peppers, mushrooms, jalapeños, and extra cheese.

Toppings such as onions, lettuce and tomatoes are always available, as are a variety of sauces and signature spices.

Jersey Mike’s is also committed to community fundraising and, since the beginning of 2024, has raised more than $130,000 in Canada for local organizations.

“During our Meadowvale grand opening fundraiser, we raised $2,362 for Make-A-Wish Canada thanks to our generous neighbours here in this great town, and we’re looking forward to raising even more with this grand opening at Heartland Town Centre,” said Otto.

The Ontario locations are the first of 300 Redberry has planned for Canada. In addition, Redberry owns two existing Jersey Mike’s locations in Kitchener and London, as well as operating Burger King and Taco Bell locations.
