Family members are accused of defrauding a vulnerable senior in Hamilton.
Hamilton Police said they have laid charges following an investigation into the alleged financial exploitation of a vulnerable senior.
Family members allegedly defrauded the senior out of a “substantial amount of money,” police said.
On June 24, investigators arrested a 56-year-old man and a 54-year-old woman in connection with the investigation.
The man and woman are charged with fraud over $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 and identity fraud.
To protect the identity of the victim, Hamilton Police said they will not be releasing the names of the accused, as doing so could identify the victim.
Both accused were released from custody with future court dates.
The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information that may assist investigators is asked to contact Detective Chris Gates of the Hamilton Police Service Crimes Against Seniors Unit at 905-540-5300.
