Fake repair business leads to arrest of Toronto man for auto theft, cocaine possession

Reports of a vehicle being driven at high speeds and in a “dangerous manner” in Pickering last week led to the arrest of a Toronto man in a stolen vehicle and the seizure of cocaine.

Durham Police responded to an assist police call regarding a stolen vehicle on the afternoon of July 22 in Pickering. At the same time, police were hearing that a white Genesis SUV was driving in a dangerous manner and at high speeds.

Officers located the vehicle parked near Liverpool Road and Kingston Road and after seeing the driver exit the vehicle were able to take him into custody. A search of the suspect located a quantity of cocaine.

Further investigation revealed that the vehicle had previously been towed by ‘East Side Towing’ to what was believed to be the AutoFix repair business in Georgina in York Region. The vehicle was reported stolen after the owner attended the location for ‘AutoFix’ and discovered the business did not exist.

Nithoosan Selvakumar, 35, is charged with dangerous operation, possession of stolen property, obstruction, possession of schedule I substance (cocaine), driving with open liquor and driving while suspended.

He was held for a bail hearing.
