Many transit operators are now requiring passengers to wear face coverings while on board, and Metrolinx is no exception.

Starting Tuesday, July 21, face coverings will be required on all GO Transit vehicles and on UP Express trains, Metrolinx announced today (July 17).

Transit staff will be on board trains, buses, and in stations informing customers about the need to wear a face covering.

However, the transit agency says there will be some riders who will not be able to wear face coverings due to pre-existing conditions, and is asking other passengers to be understanding of that fact.

Other on-board safety measures from Metrolinx include rolling out dividers between train and bus seats, hand sanitizer dispensers, and a cleaning regiment that has staff constantly wiping down touch-points in vehicles and at stations.

Metrolinx says it’s also closely monitoring ridership throughout the network and making efforts to adjust services to give customers space to spread out, as physical distancing will become increasingly difficult when more regions enter Stage 3 of the province’s reopening.
