Extra garbage can be put to the curb in Mississauga and Brampton

Mississauga and Brampton residents can soon place an unlimited amount of garbage at their curbside for collection during the Region of Peel’s annual spring waste exemption period.

The exemption period is scheduled for June 12 to 23 and residents can, on their regular collection day only, take advantage of the service.

Peel officials say that during a garbage exemption period:

  • residents can put any amount of acceptable garbage to the curb
  • garbage tags are not needed
  • extra garbage is collected only on your garbage collection day, not on your recycling collection day

To ensure residents know when their exemption day falls, Region officials suggest checking your collection calendar.

In order to be picked up, an extra garbage bag cannot:

  • weigh more than 20 kilograms (44 pounds)
  • be larger than 66 cm (26 inches) wide and 90 cm (35 inches) high
  • be smaller than 30 cm (12 inches) wide and 30 cm (12 inches) high
