Motorists can expect delays starting next week on Dundas St. E. in Mississauga near the Toronto border as work crews replace watermains.

Region of Peel officials said via Twitter that the work, which includes the removal of some centre medians to access watermains, will continue on Dundas St. E. between Dixie Rd. and the Toronto border on and off until summer 2023.

Watermains are underground pipes that bring tap water from water treatment plants to homes and businesses across Mississauga and Brampton.

“As pipes age and our population grows, we need to replace older watermains to keep providing high-quality water to (residents),” Region of Peel officials said in an online information page detailing the project.

Motorists will face potential delays daily between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Work crews may need to reduce traffic to single lanes on occasion.

If and when any water supply needs to be cut off for several hours, those affected will be given 24 to 48 hours’ notice, officials say.
