The worst of the latest winter blast has passed, but travellers planning to fly out of Pearson Airport in Mississauga today (Jan. 26) are still being urged to check the status of their flights ahead of time as delays and cancellations are still an issue.

“Lingering effects from yesterday’s winter storm might still affect your flight,” Pearson officials said via social media this morning (Jan. 26). “Don’t forget to check your flight status before you leave for the airport.”

According to reports, some 10 per cent of Pearson flights are affected today.

On Wednesday, there were hundreds of cancelled flights at Pearson as a massive snowstorm cut across southern Ontario and parts of the U.S. Airport officials reported that 25 per cent of departures and 26 per cent of arrivals (totaling some 800 flights) at Pearson were cancelled.

Pearson spokesperson Tori Gass said many cancellations were related to weather elsewhere as the storm that pummeled  Ontario affected U.S. cities as well. She noted that airlines are responsible for cancelling flights.
