The latest step in attempt to expand Milton Quarry in Halton Hills is a public meeting being held next week.

Halton Region is holding a virtual Statutory Public Meeting on May 17 at 9:30 a.m. for members of the community to provide feedback on the proposal to amend the Regional Official Plan to expand the extraction areas east of the Milton Quarry in Halton Hills.

The Milton Quarry East Extension application is currently under technical review by Halton Region, Town of Halton Hills, Town of Milton, Conservation Halton, and Niagara Escarpment Commission through a Joint Agency Review Team (JART) framework.

The Region is working closely with JART partners to ensure all stakeholders, including the public, understand each stage of approval quarry extension application.

JART is responsible for providing technical advice to each agency that reviews the application and is dedicated to ensuring policies and regulations are followed, and the interests of Halton residents are protected at each stage of the review.

The virtual meeting is Wednesday, May 17, at 9:30 a.m. The Zoom meeting ID is 985 3434 9056 and passcode, if requested, is 347589.

To join, open the Zoom application and use the meeting ID and passcode. To join by phone call 1-855-703-8985 or 1-647-374-4685 and use the meeting ID and passcode above.

In December 2021, Halton Region received Dufferin’s application to amend the Regional Official Plan. The application proposes to expand the extraction areas to the east of the existing quarry.

The Ministry of Northern Development, Mines, Natural Resources and Forestry, through the Aggregate Resources Act approval process, is ultimately responsible for making a decision on the quarry expansion.

Members of the public, including Dufferin Aggregates Co., are invited to provide written or oral submissions.

To send a written submission or make a verbal presentation, please email [email protected] and [email protected] by 5 p.m. on May 16, 2023. Advance registration is strongly encouraged for those who wish to make a verbal presentation during the meeting.

The meeting will also be available as a livestream on halton.ca and the recording of the session will be posted after the meeting on the Mineral Aggregates page.
