Signs have been posted at the Milton Fairgrounds advising residents that failure to pick up after their dogs could result in the grounds being closed off to the public.

Following several complaints about “excessive amounts” of dog waste at the Milton Fairgrounds, signs have been posted to remind the public to clean up after their dogs.

According to a post on the Milton Fairgrounds’ Facebook page, the Halton Agricultural Society has decided to post warning signs about the public use of this privately owned property.

“Pick up after your dogs or we will close the grounds to the public,” read the signs.

In response to the Facebook post, several residents expressed their disappointment.

“That is such a shame. What is wrong with people? The Fairgrounds is such a great (unofficial) dog park for all the dog lovers downtown and now a few lazy people have to ruin it for everyone,” commented a Facebook user.

“Many dog owners shouldn’t be dog owners! They lack intelligence and common sense,” read another Facebook comment.

Since the Milton Fairgrounds are used for a variety of community events including the farmers’ market, having excessive amounts of dog waste is a nuisance and inconvenience for guests and vendors.

As a result, should the public ignore the warning signs, the fairgrounds may no longer be a destination for dog owners in the area.
